Yao Jui-Chung in LONDON ART FAIR - SAVE THE DATE

LONDON ART FAIR 14 – 18 January 2009 at the Business Design Centre, Islington London Art Fair, the largest Modern British and contemporary art showcase in the UK, turns 21 in 2009. With a reputation both for quality and accessibility, the Fair will bring together one hundred leading British galleries, a selection of international projects and a showcase of contemporary photography at Islington’s Business Design Centre from 14 – 18 January 2009.

Galleries selected for the Fair in 2009 include Alan Cristea, Richard Green, Agnew's, FAS Contemporary, James Hyman Gallery, Hazlitt Holland Hibbert, Bearspace, Carter Presents, Eric Franck and Purdy Hicks. Together, the exhibitors present a broad variety of work from the 21st and 20th century, showing pieces by celebrated artists such as Keith Coventry, John Hoyland, Barbara Hepworth, Patrick Heron, Gavin Turk, William Scott alongside emerging figures such as Melanie Comber, Nina Murdoch, Jeffery Blondes, Wang Wei, Seahyun Lee and Sumedh Rajendran.

This year, the fifth presentation of Art Projects welcomes galleries from New York, Madrid, Beijing, Frankfurt, Dublin, Belfast and London – with contemporary painting and photography prominently featured. Art Projects is a platform for international galleries to bring the most stimulating contemporary practice to the Fair, offering an opportunity to present a solo show of new work or a show exploring a specific theme or aesthetic. Photo50, successfully launched in 2007, returns with a curated display of 50 photographs presented in a strong critical context and drawn from the international photographic scene. Major artists are positioned alongside rising stars and all the work on display will again be for sale. The selection of works will be organised by the Curating Programme at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Art Statement

“The panther paints the world pink then disappears into pinkness.” (Pet, 2005 3)

There is always resplendnet with the variegated colouration of night life.
The colourful imagery might only paint Taiwan’s multicultural, rhizomatic, ruptured and chaotic geographical information in a scientific chromatographer order.

Being confused by the names, slogans, and colours in the adverts, movies and television programs is typical post modern life today. The colour provides an empty machine here, to accompany us to ride between these heterogeneous elements. Any typical entertainment business in Taiwan has colourful neon, shining banners, spinning light balls and running subtitles, which are all like the experience and memory that we have of typical Taiwanese night scenes.Every time I pass along the shining sidewalk in Taipei city, I am left with the feeling that I have just walked along the red carpet reserved for Hollywood Stars, and I am ready for the performance.

The signs of luxurious decoration and neon colour seem to express to consumers a hint of a better or even more enjoyable idea. This exemplifies the heterotopias in such a hedonistic city, seemingly set apart from the real world. In KTV’s chamber, immersed in the dazzling neon light, the customers clothes, their costume, take on sexy colours and we are intoxicated by the appearance of our colourful friends.

They don’t attempt to reproduce the serious subjects or events and just want to explore themselves as well. There are, moreover, no target and indication. What they try to do is “transpiring” a kind of frequencies.

<Frequencies> is a group exhibition that presents the different types works which are created by Jian-Hong Wang, Pei-Shan Lee, Wei-Tu Chen, Zong-You Tsai and Teng-Yuan Chang. All of them are studying in Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts, TNNUA (Tainan National University of Arts).  Before compiling and composing the elements in the works, Jian-Hong Wang materializes traditional Chinese landscape painting, trying to display a unusual scene. Pei-Shan Lee is clever at catching the slight perception in her life perceptually and presenting them poetically. Wei-Tu Chen uses his sensitive perceptiveness to deal with the strange images which show the twists between the reason and passion. To base on wrestling, Zong-You Tsai wants to arrange the physical strokes with cold tone and then to make the tranquil insolation. Teng-Yuan Chang continues his animation video and brings the outlook of optometry into the works, and then shows a kind of fake and harmonious feeling.

Hsieh, Mu-Chi is very good at transforming painted canvas into private conversations. At the start of 2009, Mr Hsieh is going to hold his solo exhibition, M&P, at the Aki Gallery, and this time what he will show us is not painting but "relationships"; the relationship between the creator himself and his paintings, between viewers and the creative process, and between Mr Hsieh and his invitation to everyone to explore his world. Hsieh, Mu-Chi is one of the most talented stars to emerge in the field of art. His unique works have not only won him many prizes in this nation, but the admiration of collectors as far away as Europe. You will not want to miss this fascinating show which runs from January 9th to February 1st.

Hsieh, Mu-Chi is planning to exhibit not only his paintings, but also his first attempt at a video work. Going against the ease of technology, he uses hand painting to produce and reproduce several copies. At first sight, they may look the same but viewers will find and enjoy the slight differences in each one. Escaping the traditional square canvas, the artist uses ellipses -- wooden boards that represent his eyeball. The artist portrays the scenes honestly, providing viewers with a clear understanding of the relationship he intends. The video clips are unexpectedly funny. For instance, like a factory, painting labourers are wearing uniforms and producing paintings under the supervision of painting master, Hsieh, Mu-Chi. The artist means to mock rigid rules of the art school environment.

YOUNG ART TAIPEI - the 1st hotel art fair in Taiwan

The 1st Taipei / International Contemporary Art Fair “YOUNG ART TAIPEI” is the very first contemporary art fair in Asia that focuses on young artists under the age of 45. This fair aims to serve as a platform for contemporary art in Asia to communicate within the region.

According to statistics proves that one third of the transaction in Sotheby's Hong Kong sale of Asian Contemporary Art is contributed by Taiwanese collectors. This figure shows that Taiwan has become one of the most promising potential markets in Asia for consuming contemporary art pieces. In 2009, we will hold “YOUNG ART TAIPEI” in an attempt to not only integrate the large art collecting and investing force in the market, but also create further connections amongst the art collecting groups in Asia. Due to an open economic policy towards free funding flows and a low 5% business tax, Taipei City, the capital of Taiwan provides a perfect environment and a convenient channel for international galleries to promote their own artists. Therefore, from May 7, 2009 to May 10, 2009, we will invite up to 40 high quality international galleries in Asia to join our fair in Taipei. Through our partnership with Sunworld Dynasty Hotel Taipei, we offer you a sophisticated and elegant venue, as the platform for all participating galleries, curators, artists, collectors and audiences.

This fair is organised and held by TAIWAN CONTEMPORARY ART LINK in association with four local galleries. You can visit us online at http://www.youngarttaipei.com/ for more information.
